Our Story

From a vision to train young professionals into a movement equipping Christian 20-somethings across 19 states and 8 countries.

With a heart to develop young adults for positively impacting culture and finding purpose in their vocation, in 2006 John Scroggins began developing the concept for the Columbus, Ohio, 501(c)(3) nonprofit faith-based organization that would eventually come to be known as The Baton Exchange.

"To equip Christian 20-Somethings to integrate faith, work, and leadership for a life of redemptive influence for Christ."

The organization has reached young adults from nearly 20 countries through various formats including virtual and in-person communities, mentoring, content, retreats, and workshops. Our development areas span the full person:

  • Calling — Discovering your God-given purpose
  • Core — Heart and personal foundations
  • Christ — Head and worldview
  • Character — Who you are when no one is watching
  • Competency — Soft skills for the workplace
  • Capacity — Servant leadership
  • Community — Context and connection

A Journey of Faith

Originally named the WAM House (Workplace As Ministry), the concept developed with mentorship as a foundational component. In 2008, we became a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and launched our inaugural cohort with three trainees from China, India, and Uzbekistan.

By 2013, enrollment grew from four to nearly 40, and the organization transitioned to its current name. In 2015-2016, we developed the "Faith, Work, Integrate!" video curriculum with over 50 interviews from professionals across ten countries.

When COVID hit in 2020, we launched Journey Groups with Hope City Church and shifted to online mentoring, creating sustainable virtual methods that expanded our reach far beyond Columbus.

We've been blessed to see many of our alumni grow into leadership roles in their spheres of influence, and have even seen alumni give back to the ministry with their time, talent, and treasure.

We emphasize one-on-one (Life2Life) mentoring and equip 50-100 people every week through our online Media Ministry. And you know what? We're still small with a big dream.

Soli Deo Gloria!
